Tadoba National Park
Maharashtra’s Premier Tiger Safari Destination
Maharashtra’s oldest protected forest, Tadoba National Park, is a beautiful, wild place; it has gently curving hills, thick, dry forests of trees that lose their leaves in the dry season, and peaceful Todoba Lake in the centre. Tadoba was once a secret known to people who liked to go on wildlife trips away from the usual places, but in the last few years it has become very well-known because so many more tigers have been seen there, and is now one of the best places in India to go on a tiger safari.
A Wide Variety of Plants and Animals
Covering 625 square kilometres – with 116 square kilometres as the main protected area – Tadoba National Park has forests of teak and bamboo, grassland, and small areas of dry, mixed forest, all of which make it a really good place to see animals. The park is the home of about sixty to seventy wild tigers, as well as leopards, sloth bears, and Indian wild dogs. In the dry season, animals are easier to see at the temporary pools of water, and the nearby Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary makes the protected area even bigger, helping the animals to live and grow in numbers.
Because of Tadoba’s plants and wide open spaces, it is among the best places in Maharashtra for wildlife photos and safari trips; and being easy to get to from Nagpur, and open all year, means visitors can enjoy safaris in the monsoon season – which is not often possible in India’s national parks.
